Ace Your TAM Card Exam with These Simple Tips

Ready to get to work in the hospitality capital of the world? Whether you are aiming to pour drinks on the Strip or serve guests in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada state law requires you to pass a supervised alcohol awareness exam with a score of 75% or better before you can be issued your alcohol awareness card, also referred to as a TAM Card.

While “exam” might sound intimidating, there is no need to be nervous. We are here to make sure you walk into our office with total confidence.

Here are some quick tips to help you ace your test and get to work:

Depending on how you choose to learn, your path to the finish line looks a little different.

  • Online training: Once you complete your TAM training online, you’ll head to our office located right off the strip at 2310 Paseo Del Prado for a proctored exam with our friendly office staff.
  • Classroom training: If you prefer a traditional setting, you’ll take your test immediately following one of our in-person training sessions, available every Wednesday and Saturday at our office. Added bonus – if you’re in the classroom, don’t hesitate to ask questions to our expert instructors!

The exam is a straightforward review of the material you’ve already covered.  Here is how to ensure you’re ready:

  • Take the practice test. Online students have access to a practice test at the end of their training. This is the best way to see the types of questions that will appear on the final.
  • Find time for a 5-minute refresh. If you wait a few days between your training and your exam, flip through the TAM Student Manual before you walk into our office to keep the info fresh and top of mind.
  • Relax! Most students find the test to be a breeze after participating in the training.

15 Minutes to the Finish Line

We know your time is valuable. The short exam is all multiple-choice questions based on the information you learned in the TAM course. Between taking the test and getting your picture taken for your official TAM Card, you’ll be in and out of our office in approximately 15 minutes. The training you’ve completed with us won’t just help you ace the exam; it will also help you practice safe beverage service every single shift.

Relax, focus, and you’ll do great! Visit our website at www.tamnevada.com to get started.

Opening a Restaurant in Las Vegas? Alcohol Awareness Training is Required

Opening a restaurant in Las Vegas is exciting and fast-paced. Between the usual checklist items such as build-outs, menus, vendors, and hiring, it’s easy to overlook one critical requirement that can delay your opening or put your license at risk: Mandatory alcohol awareness training and TAM Cards® for your entire staff.

Here’s what every new restaurant owner in Las Vegas should know:

Alcohol awareness training is required by the state of Nevada for all employees who sell or serve alcohol. This includes:

  • Bartenders
  • Servers
  • Managers and supervisors
  • Anyone else involved in alcohol sales and service such as security guards and delivery drivers

Alcohol awareness training ensures your staff knows how to:

  • Check IDs correctly
  • Prevent service to minors and intoxicated guests
  • Handle difficult alcohol-related situations
  • Help protect your business from fines and citations

Without properly trained staff, your restaurant could face safety issues or costly fines. This is the last thing you want to worry about when you’re just opening your doors to welcome new customers.

Timing Is Everything With your Grand Opening

When you’re gearing up for opening day, the last thing you want is:

  • Employees scrambling to find individual alcohol awareness classes
  • Inconsistent training across your team
  • Issues scheduling staff because their training isn’t complete

That’s why it’s smart to handle alcohol awareness training early and all at once.

On-Site Training: One Team, One Class, Zero Hassle

To make things easy for new restaurants, TAM of Nevada can come directly to your location and train your entire staff on-site.

Benefits of on-site training include:

  • Training your whole team together, at the same time.
  • Less downtime and fewer scheduling headaches.
  • Assure that your staff is fully compliant and trained on the Techniques of Alcohol Management – the first choice for business owners across Nevada.

We offer this option for busy restaurant owners who need things done right the first time.

Set Your Restaurant Up for a Strong Start

We all know that Las Vegas is a competitive market, and first impressions matter. Proper TAM Card training doesn’t just check a legal box, it also helps protect your business, your liquor license, and your reputation from day one.

If your restaurant is opening soon, now is the perfect time to schedule training and cross one major requirement off your list.
