NMC CourseIt’s official! In July 2017 legal recreational marijuana sales began across the state of Nevada. Do you know all of the new rules that can affect you? You can now register for the 30-minute online Nevada Marijuana Compliance Course to get up to speed on what’s new and need to know.

TAM of Nevada is offering this brand new online course, developed by O/E Learning. This new course can help you prepare for new and coming changes in the legal cannabis industry here in Nevada.

This training is the perfect introduction for employees of marijuana-based businesses, or for anyone who wants to learn more about the ins and outs of this new industry and laws. This interactive course includes fun animated scenarios and practical information for sales professionals.

While Nevada regulations are still in flux and may not be completely defined until sometime in 2018, this course gives you the foundation you need to be prepared. Objectives include:

  1. Understand the laws for legal possession and use of marijuana in Nevada.
  2. Recognize and recite the effects of marijuana, and the synergistic effects when combined with other drugs.
  3. Perform a successful I.D. check or diligent inquiry.

Momenti Spirited Ice Creams and Sorbets Chooses TAM of Nevada to Provide Alcohol Awareness Training

ice creamWe are pleased to announce that TAM® of Nevada has been chosen by Las Vegas-based Momenti Spirited Ice Creams and Sorbets to provide alcohol awareness training and TAM Cards for their employees in Las Vegas. Remember, alcohol awareness cards are required for all sellers and servers of alcoholic beverage products in Clark County. That rule is not limited to only beers, wines and hard liquors. It also includes unique products like the spirit-infused premium ice cream that Momenti has been serving up since 2013.

Made in a small-batch process using all natural ingredients and top-shelf liquors, Momenti is known for their creative flavor combinations such as strawberry daiquiri ice cream, blackberry cabernet sorbet, and white russian pecan.  Servers should know that the alcohol content of Momenti products is about 5% ABV on average, but some flavors have up to 23% ABV.

Before serving infused desserts, remember to check the product packaging for the alcohol content, and stay aware of calculating how much alcohol your guests are consuming. Always spoon responsibly! For cashiers and clerks at retail stores that carry Momenti Spirited Ice Creams or other alcohol-infused products, make sure that you are checking for valid identification before making a sale. Individuals must be 21 years of age or older to purchase these products.

TAM® Cards for Teens – Training Available for Ages 16 and Up

iStock_000003275965SmallThere is a common misconception that one must be 21 years old to obtain a TAM® Card, but in reality TAM® training is available to individuals ages 16 and up. Remember, anyone who works in sales and service of alcoholic beverages, or in security at establishments that serve or sell alcoholic beverages in Southern Nevada must obtain an alcohol awareness card (Nevada Revised Statutes). Many minors and young adults work in positions that may require them to have their cards. Examples include cashiering or clerking at grocery and convenience stores. Workers ages 16-17 may handle sealed alcoholic beverages such as wine bottles or beer cans if they are employed at these types of establishments, as long as they are supervised by an adult.

Rules are different for hospitality professionals working at on-premises locations, and this is often where the confusion about alcohol awareness training regulations comes in. One must be 21 years or older to serve alcohol for consumption on the premises. In other words, if you work in a bar, restaurant, casino or other establishment where you are responsible for mixing or serving open alcoholic beverages, you must be of legal drinking age yourself. Additionally, one must also be 21 or older to be allowed inside a casino. These rules are applicable to individuals in positions such as bartenders, waiters, cocktail servers, etc.
